Safeguarding Your Sensitive Electronics: The Power of EMI/RF Shielding with Indy Honeycomb
In today’s world of rapidly advancing technology, the proliferation of electronic devices has become ubiquitous. From the smartphones in our pockets to the complex control systems powering critical infrastructure, these electronic marvels have become indispensable to modern life. However, with this reliance on electronics comes a crucial challenge: the need to protect against the harmful effects of electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radiofrequency (RF) radiation.
Enter Indy Honeycomb, a leading manufacturer of top-tier EMI/RF shielding solutions. With over 25 years of experience in the industry, Indy Honeycomb has established itself as a trusted partner for organizations across a wide range of sectors, from defense and aerospace to telecommunications and beyond.
At the heart of Indy Honeycomb’s EMI/RF shielding offerings is their innovative honeycomb panel construction. These panels are engineered to provide robust, reliable protection against electromagnetic fields and radio frequency interference, ensuring the optimal performance and longevity of sensitive electronic systems.
The Key to Effective EMI/RF Shielding: Indy Honeycomb’s Proprietary Panel Design
Indy Honeycomb’s EMI/RF shielding panels are built to withstand the most demanding environments, thanks to their meticulously engineered design. Each panel features a welded steel honeycomb core, which is then assembled with a sturdy frame. During the brazing process, the panels undergo a high-temperature heat treatment in a vacuum furnace, where a molten nickel-based alloy is introduced into all the joints and cell nodes.
This advanced manufacturing process ensures the structural and performance integrity of the panels, making them less susceptible to damage during welding or installation. Additionally, Indy Honeycomb recommends plating or painting the panels to further enhance their performance and prevent corrosion, ensuring a long-lasting and reliable solution.
Customizable Configurations for Optimal Protection
Indy Honeycomb’s EMI/RF shielding panels are available in a variety of configurations to meet the unique requirements of each customer’s application. The honeycomb core can be fabricated from either stainless steel or mild steel, with cell sizes ranging up to 5/8″ and wall thicknesses up to 0.010″. The cell depth can be up to 3.25″, and the panels can be manufactured in sizes up to 42″ x 42″.
The frame, too, can be customized to suit specific project needs. Indy Honeycomb offers frame materials in stainless steel or mild steel, with thicknesses starting at 0.125″ and the ability to weld multiple frames together to create larger assemblies. This flexible configuration ensures that Indy Honeycomb can tailor their solutions to the exact specifications of each customer, delivering optimal protection and performance.
Proven Performance: Rigorous Testing and Unparalleled Shielding Effectiveness
Indy Honeycomb’s commitment to quality and performance is evident in the rigorous testing conducted on their EMI/RF shielding panels. A sample panel was tested in accordance with the stringent MIL-STD-125-188 standard, and the results were nothing short of impressive.
The average attenuation achieved was a remarkable 130 dB, with the worst-case shielding effectiveness (SE) point reaching a staggering 97 dB. To put these numbers into perspective, a shielding effectiveness of 100 dB means that the electromagnetic field inside the shielded enclosure is only one-ten-thousandth (0.01%) of the field outside the enclosure. This level of protection is crucial for safeguarding sensitive electronic systems from the harmful effects of EMI and RF interference.
The test panel was constructed using stainless steel 304 for both the honeycomb core and the frame, with a cell size of 3/8″ hex and a cell depth of 2″. The frame was 0.125″ thick and L-shaped, and the overall dimensions of the panel were 24″ x 24″.
